The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is a set of business laws adopted by all 50 states so that commercial transactions are more or less standardized, regardless of which state a business operates in.
Article 9 of the UCC covers secured transactions: it's the part that lets a lender (the "secured party") publicly stake a claim to specific property a borrower (the "debtor") has pledged as collateral for a loan.
That public claim is what a UCC filing actually is. A UCC-1 financing statement is the notice a secured party files to put the world on notice of that claim and protect its priority if the debtor defaults or takes on other debt. A UCC-3 can then be filed to amend, continue, or terminate an existing filing.

Perfecta is not a substitute for an official certified UCC search. Underlying state data may be incomplete, delayed, or contain errors that originate from the source records themselves. Business names are also not always recorded consistently across filings and search results may be affected by capitalization, punctuation, abbreviations, etc.
For lending, legal, or compliance decisions, obtain a certified search directly from the relevant Secretary of State.
